It was pointed out to me the other day that I shop like a hippy. I was a bit tetchy about it at the time but I have decided that I am going to take it as a compliment. When we went shopping for household appliances I pushed to buy Energy Star rated products wherever possible because efficiency pays off. We have a front loading washing machine because they use less water. I drive a 2005 Scion xB because I wanted something that used a reasonable amount of gas and was in my price range. When we occasionally use the fireplace I prefer to burn Java logs as I like the idea of burning coffee (that would otherwise be in a landfill) rather than wood. I choose to use Seventh Generation laundry detergent because it is not a petroleum products (like many other detergents). I think it is great that I have the option to make those choices.

My conclusion? I should not be perturbed that it can be said that I shop like a hippy. I should instead smile pretty and indicate that I do my best to be green where I can. If nothing else I am still learning little ways to change my habits all the time that are a little nicer to the environment that we live in.
