Playa Ride

I was feeling a bit tetchy about not having a bike and decided to deal with that after work yesterday. I touched base with a tiny burner friendly bike shop in Northeast Portland called The Missing Link who hooked me up with a cute little blue 24" beach cruiser. I called them up to ask about their stock for shorter people and they built it for me since they didn't have any 24" frames assembled at the time.

I cannot say enough about how nice the guy was that helped me. Although the owner is not a burner he does a lot of bikes destined for Burning Man. (The first thing I saw coming in the door was a playa coated tandem in for a pre-burn tune.) It felt good to have the option to spend my cash at a locally owned shop rather than some giant corporate chain.

curious... how is the bike thing related to the burning man thing? Do you bring your bike? Are there special bike paths?

Welll ...
the playa is a pedestrian city. With a few exceptions people do not drive there so it is strictly a foot/pedal traffic kind of deal. It's in a dried up lake bed so flat and pretty easy to ride on in addition to having streets through it.

Since it is a huge city it is pretty nice to have a bike to get around.
